2024-25 Academic Year

Stanford in New York brings 25 undergraduate students to New York City for a quarter-length (10 week), off-campus immersion experience. Students take courses, work in internships, and experience living and learning in New York. Field trips, guest speakers, cultural events, professional development, and community engagement opportunities all contribute to student learning. Stanford in New York students will attend the program in person for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Students have class on Wednesdays and additional weekday evenings, starting at 6:30 pm. Hours outside of the normal workday are possible, with mutual agreement, as long as they don’t conflict with program obligations.

Academic Credit and Pay

  • Stanford in New York internships are part of an academic curriculum. The primary goal of the internship is to provide a meaningful, supervised learning experience in a professional setting. All students receive academic credit for their learning through a required Internship Seminar.
  • We encourage host organizations to offer pay to Stanford in New York interns, and organizations may pay the student directly or via federal work study, if applicable; however, pay is not required.
  • In either case, students should receive ample opportunities to acquire knowledge in this field, learn new skills, and make professional connections.

Manager and Company Responsibilities

  • Interns should be assigned a primary manager who is responsible for mentoring and available to meet regularly.
  • We ask for a mid-point meeting with the student and manager to assess the learning and experience to date.
  • At the end of the internship, managers are asked to provide a brief written evaluation of the intern.

Application Process and Decision Timeline

  • The internship placement process helps organizations and students find mutual fit and buy-in.
  • The program sends the resumes of interested students to contacts at organizations, who in turn arrange video or phone call interviews directly with potential interns. Hiring managers should also communicate directly with students about offers and keep the program informed as well.
  • Students typically interview for several internships before making a decision.
  • Please extend offers no later than one month before the internship start date.
  • Please allow interns 1-2 weeks to respond to an offer.
